The father of a 10-month old baby girl was arrested and charged with her rape in murder after investigators said they discovered several Google searches on his phone.
Investigators say, Austin Stevens, 29, allegedly waited an hour after his daughter died to call the police as he Googled terms like “my baby isn’t breathing,” “if baby stop breathing,” “what if you don’t hear baby heart or beat,” “my baby isn’t breathing” and “how do you know if a baby is dead.”
Stevens was charged with involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, rape of a child, aggravated assault, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other offense.
When police arrived at Stevens’ home Saturday night, his daughter was unresponsive. They performed CPR on the child and transported her to the hospital. The little girl was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Stevens’ phone and found the Google searches related to the child’s death.
Investigators also found a diaper worn by the infant which was saturated with blood.
An autopsy performed on the child Sunday revealed that she was sexually assaulted and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
Stevens remains in jail on a $1 million bond. His next court hearing is Oct. 13.
